Remote Servers

In this section of the Navigation you can handle your server instances, e.g. production server and test server, to add a server right click the Remote Servers item and click Add Server...

Navigation - Remote Servers

An Add Server... dialog will open.

Add Server Dialog

Enter a name for your server and the URL to your server, leave version to Auto if you’re not sure which EFM version your server is running.

If you use a server below 4.6.0 the Auto version won’t work, if this is the case open the EFM web portal in a web browser and have a look at the login page, below the username and password fields the version will be shown.

If the version of the EFM system is below 4.6.0 you have to enter the URL just as when you enter it in the web browser, e.g. http://myEFMserver or http://myEFMserver.proveo.com. If you use an EFM system 4.6.0 or newer you have to enter the URL as shown in the screenshot above, e.g.: https://myEFMserver:8443 or https://myEFMserver.proveo.com:8443.

After you have entered your EFM server data into the dialog click OK to close the dialog and create the server. Expand the Remote Servers item and there is your newly create server item.

Navigation - Remote Servers

To login to your server just perform a double click on the server item or open the context menu by right clicking the server item and select Login.

Remote Server context menu

As soon as you are trying to login you will see a login dialog.

Login Dialog

Enter your username and password for the EFM server and press OK. After you have clicked OK and your username and password was accepted by the server, the Infoman Diagnostic Manager is starting to download the units, running tasks and resources from the server.

Loading data from server

During this the navigation tree of the server will be built, when everything is downloaded you will see a small balloon in the lower right corner of the Infoman Diagnostic Manager.

Loading data from server finished

Now you can work with that server. Therefore expand the server item you will then see some navigation items for that server depending what features your server supports and what data is present.

Working with remote Infomans

Only possible if the necessary plugin is installed!

If you work with remote Infomans (Infomans that are reached over a server), some actions behave differently from those you can do with local Infomans (All Infomans in the Local folder).
In most cases you won't communicate with an Infoman directly. If, for example, you want to perform a software update on an Infoman, you'll see a scheduling dialog. In this dialog you need to select a date, provide a time and select a software. The software is limited to a selection of software packages that are on the server.
The update won't be performed immediately, too. If you set the update task to a recent date, it will be executed only if the Infoman responds to the server. This can cause a delay in the update procedure.

Callback

Only possible if the necessary plugin is installed!

With the callback flag it's possible to work with an Infoman as it would be a local Infoman. Choose the Callback action from the context menu of a remote Infoman. Depending on the server version the Callback process will be executed automatically or you are required to enter the address of that Infoman. This address can be retrieved if you set the Callback flag on an Infoman through the EFM Portal (consult documentation for further information). In either case this Infoman will appear in the folder Callback Infomans.
Note however that some actions are still not available. You can work with the Infoman in a more direct way, but some actions are simply not possible due to the fact that the Infoman is still on a remote location.

An example

VPN Tunnel example
  1. In the IDM, you request a callback for an Infoman. Depending on the server version you might be required to do this through the EFM portal of the server where this Infoman is responding to.
  2. The Infoman will connect itself to the configured VPN server. You needn't to do anything here, but it could take a while for the Infoman to connect itself to the VPN server.
  3. Once the Infoman has connected itself to the VPN server, it's IP address will be available (in this example it is: 72.123.97.33).
  4. The Infoman appears in the folder "Callback Infomans". The actual connection is performed through a SSH tunnel. The tunnel setup is created for you and looks like this:
